Happy 1st Birthday, StartUp Babies!

Happy Birthday

Wow, I can’t believe it’s been a year since I started this blog. I started this blog because I wanted a space where I could share my journey as a wife, a first-time mommy, daughter, friend, and entrepreneur.

This was my main reason but I also had a couple of secret reasons as to why I wanted to blog:

1.) I came from corporate brand marketing before and I was worried that if I write less, my copywriting abilities would deteriorate with lack of practice.

2.) I had a lot of to-do lists and using this blog to journal my bucket list, mommy list, and work stuff among others, would force me to accomplish everything since I would be held accountable to myself, my family, business network and ultimately to you – my readers.

3.) I wanted a space to be inspired, be positive and have that feeling of wanting to live life MORE.

4.) Jotting down my problems, fears and worries helped me to resolve some issues and gave me an outlet to think clearly, calmly and stay strong.

5.)  Taking note of milestones, joys, and successes enabled me to remember to count my blessings, stay humble, content and be happy.

Fast forward to one year of blogging and I am so amazed by how much I have grown in this short span of time. With my blog, I have met so many wonderful people – some have become friends, others turned out to be business connections, hobby partners, and mommy advisors.

StartUp Babies has become more than just a blog. It has become my own personal space where inspiration became vision and is continually molding my reality and my life. Thank you to all my dear readers for your love and support. This journey is so much sweeter because of all of you. Here’s to more birthdays to come for StartUp Babies!!! 🙂

Day 6 Hands on Play Challenge: Family Time

What a timely play challenge since it’s also a national holiday today (Happy Independence Day) now here in Manila. The challenge is to simply spend some family together time doing whatever you want to do… TOGETHER! Together is the main objective of the challenge. Sometimes we spend time as a family in one room but you see each person doing a different thing. One is watching TV, one is surfing with the iPad and the other one is blogging or twittering. This really doesn’t count as bonding if you think about it.

The activity that we chose to do was to read books. I got a bunch of books for Baby Bear during the last sale at The Book Depository which I blogged about here.

It was delivered last week and we wanted to open them already. We opened them one by one and let her choose a book. She still really likes the Baby Touch series and I’m happy that even though it’s a new book, she is already able to point out words that she learned before like flower, bird, star, and owl, among others. Here is a list of the other books that she currently reads.

Reading books is always a nice bonding activity. It is a learning experience and an avenue to help your baby foster confidence in herself. It teaches a lot and opens up a whole new world for them. Reading is something that can never be replaced with technology. There is a nice experience and memory evoked with every turn of the page, the smell of an old book and the love that you feel when your parents read to you. No technology can ever do that! Agree? 🙂

Kreativ Blogger Award

Thank you NIA, for nominating me for the Kreativ Blogger award! I am deeply humbled to receive this blessing since I just recently started this blog — last month, to be precise. 🙂 It is truly an honor for me and it makes me feel inspired… what a warm welcome into the blogging world! 🙂

I was nominated by dear, sweet Nia of www.photographyofnia.com.  Nia is a very talented photographer who sees the world with her lens. Her ability to capture the beauty of the subject of her camera is truly amazing! Makes you see the world from a different perspective. 🙂

These are the rules:

  1. You must thank the person who has given you the award.
  2. Copy the logo and place it on your blog.
  3. Link the person who has nominated you for the award.
  4. Name 7 things about yourself that people might find interesting.
  5. Nominate 7 other Kreativ Bloggers.
  6. Post links to the 7 blogs you nominate.
  7. Leave a comment on each of the blogs to let them know they have been nominated.

7 Things about me:

  1. I get good ideas while I’m taking a shower or while I’m swimming in a pool or beach… must be something about water that calms and inspires me! 😉
  2. When I was young, my mom thought I would become an artist… turns out I didn’t have the gift! 😉
  3. I am directionally-challenged.  Lost cause a long, long time ago.
  4. If I were to be stuck on an elevator with someone, it would have to be with some star.  Not because I’m star-struck but it would be nice to know how human their life really is.
  5. I can do productive work while listening to my sounds, but for some reason I can’t digest the book I’m reading if I have my tunes in the background… go figure!
  6. I feel that one of life’s greatest achievement would be to “be someone’s mentor”.
  7. I hope that when I die, I leave a legacy behind.
